Helios Education Foundation Awards $1.2 Million to Early Learning Coalition of Pinellas County to Launch Pinellas Literacy Initiative
Three-year initiative will strengthen early literacy instruction and kindergarten readiness in high-need communities
Pinellas County, Fla. — The Early Learning Coalition of Pinellas County (ELCP) is proud to announce the launch of the Pinellas Literacy Initiative, a comprehensive early literacy program designed to strengthen literacy instruction in Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) classrooms serving high-need communities throughout Pinellas County.
Through a $1.2 million grant from Helios Education Foundation, the Pinellas Literacy Initiative will provide high-quality literacy supports over two years to private VPK providers. The program will include educator development, literacy coaching, and family engagement into a coordinated system focused on improving kindergarten readiness and long-term academic success.
“This investment represents a transformational opportunity for early learners in Pinellas County,” said Lindsay Carson, CEO of the Early Learning Coalition of Pinellas County. “By strengthening literacy instruction during the critical early childhood years, we are helping children build the foundational skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.”
“Early literacy is one of the strongest predictors of long-term student success,” said Paul J. Luna, president and CEO of Helios Education Foundation. “Building on the success of the Pinellas Early Literacy Initiative, this investment extends proven literacy supports to private VPK providers, strengthening the educators, families, and learning environments that help children enter kindergarten ready to learn and succeed.”
As part of the initiative, ELCP will provide targeted coaching and instructional support to VPK educators and leaders.
Key components of the initiative include:
- Literacy training and coaching for educators
- Leadership mentorship and coaching
- Family engagement activities and literacy events
- Distribution of literacy resources and Ready to Read materials
The Pinellas Literacy Initiative reflects a shared commitment by Helios Education Foundation and ELCP to improve educational outcomes and ensure every child enters kindergarten ready to learn and thrive.
